Background

My name is Gediminas. I am 19 years old and come from Lithuania. I am currently studying the second semester of Economics and Business Administration at Aarhus University in Herning.

What were your considerations when you chose what to study?

When I chose what to study, I was looking for something that would give me a skill-set for starting a business, managing it and would
be a great starting point to continue my education up to the masters studies.

What was most important to you in the process?

The most important thing during the process of looking for a study programme was the university’s responsiveness, helpfulness and
the information available online to make the final decision.

What does the city of Herning offer international students?

The city of Herning is great for internationals because it offers an environment where you can focus on your studies,
there are not a lot of distractions, although you still have everything you need, like gyms, shops, bars and you can always socialize
with like-minded people.

How do you meet new people?

Most of the time I meet new people by getting introduced to them by my friends. Or if I need any help, which I did a lot in the first semester, I ask around in groups and those that respond turn out to be awesome people to hang out with.

Where do you usually meet?

I usually meet new people in get-togethers, parties or at the university – there were numerous times when I made great friends just by accidentally studying in the same group.

How is the atmosphere at the education institutions and in Herning in general?

The environment is really good in my opinion, especially for me, who is coming from a bigger town and used to the city life, I see this
as an opportunity to focus more on my studies, objectives and being as productive as I can be.

How do you experience collaborations between education and companies?

The collaborations between the universities and businesses are very fruitful. We have had numerous lectures presented by higher-ups of businesses in the Herning area and that brought great insight on how the gears turn in real life situations
for the people who run companies.

Do you have a student job, and do you have any tips to finde one?

I do have a student job and the only thing I would recommend is: increase your chances! I have passed out tens of my CV’s for shops, bars etc. in the city, sent out hundreds of emails and applied to a lot of places and got the job where I least expected.
This took me around two months. If you will show you are passionate about finding a job, you will get it!

What are you career dreams?

My career dreams are to learn how to scale and develop a business, how to develop leaders and then start my own company. And so far my studies are definitely leading me towards the right direction.

What do you get here, that you don´t get anywhere else?

In Herning I get a really inclusive atmosphere, found great friends that I share a lot of my interests with and after a while it made me feel like at home because of the values that represent this environment match my own.

What is Herning’s biggest strength?

Herning’s biggest strength is in its’ own ability to stay humble while dreaming big.

Can you imagine getting a job here and staying in area?

Yes, I do imagine myself staying here and continuing to strive to make my dreams reality. There are a lot of opportunities to be taken here so it is only a question of time when they will show themselves.
