Background

My name is Enrique, I am a 19 year old Spanish student in Denmark. I study Global Management and Manufacturing
at Aarhus University in Herning.

What were your considerations when you chose what to study?

I have always wanted to study my bachelor abroad. My priorities were to have a good education that provided me with
good future opportunities.

What does the city of Herning offer international students?

Herning is a great city, however it can seem boring if you do not put interest, (as anything in life to be honest),
there are a great number of activities to do, from exiting activities like boxing, baseball and football to more relaxing ones such
as cooking, knitting or painting, there is even a Quidditch club!. You just have to put the effort to integrate and you will
quickly expand your network.

How do you meet new people?

As I said earlier, there are lots of activities in Herning, so try new things and you will easily make new international and
local friends. Bars are also a great place.

Where do you usually meet?

We usually hang out in our homes, but we also like going out to parties, the Friday bar (bar inside the university)
and the center of Herning.

How is the atmosphere at the education institutions and in Herning in general?

People are really competent and excited about their degrees, which makes it a productive and engaging atmosphere.

How do you experience collaborations between education and companies?

It is amazing, compared to Spain, where you barely have opportunities during your studies, here the university helps you find companies you can collaborate and relate to your studies. For example, in my degree we spend half of the semesters
working with companies.

Do you have a student job, and do you have any tips to find one?

I have two student jobs at the time. It can be a bit difficult to get a job as most companies will ask you to speak Danish.
However, as I mentioned before, by doing tasks you will meet new people, which will expand your network.
In Denmark having a broad network is crucial for job opportunities. Ps. Its free to learn Danish at the academy, so give it a thought.

What are you career dreams?

I am planning to get an engineering job as soon as I finish my studies and start building up a future here in Herning.

What is Herning’s biggest strength?

Herning is a tranquil city with lots of nature and bike roads. If you like a safe and relaxing place to live in, Herning is your place.
