The Martello brand is back. Founded in 1948 in the textile city of Herning, Martello emerged during a time when the textile industry accounted for 56% of the city’s industrial workforce. The company was established by Martin Nielsen and later taken over by Gunnar, followed by his daughter Britta and her husband Flemming. They produced knitwear with a strong focus on quality, design, production optimization, and on-time delivery—qualities that made them Northern Europe’s largest supplier to major European buyers. Today, Martello has been reestablished by former employees as a producer of knitwear for uniforms and fashion, bringing the company’s traditional values into the future. The new owners collectively bring over 100 years of knitting experience, with expertise in business development, logistics, sales, design, and global production and sourcing.
